Istinye University was founded in 2015 through the collaboration of the Century Anadolu Foundation and the MLP Care Group, which operates the three largest hospitals in Turkey.

In June 2017, the university inaugurated the Istinye University Center for Economics and Political Studies programs. Following this, in January 2018, it opened the Institute of Social Sciences. The establishment of research centers and faculties continued with the launch of the Medical Artificial Intelligence Research and Application Center in June 2018, the Media Research Center in January 2020, and the Faculty of Dentistry and Faculty of Communications in May 2021.
