Introduction to the University

History of Özyeğin University

Ozyegin University was established in 2005 through the initiative of the Hüsnü M. Özyeğin Foundation, and its official opening was announced on May 18, 2007. The faculties of engineering, economics and administrative sciences, arts and sciences, applied sciences, and the institutes of science and technology and social sciences were created.

The university welcomed its first students in September 2008 after completing the preparations for the Altunizade campus, the main campus of the university.

In 2009, the Center for Entrepreneurship, the Center for Financial Engineering, and the Center for Energy, Environment, and Economics were established, and the university announced the acceptance of the radiation heat transfer project in the field of thermal energy.

Two years later, the Faculty of Law was established, and work began on the university’s second campus, Çekmeköy. Many achievements followed in a short period, including the establishment of the Faculty of Architecture and Design, the German Center for Legal Research, and the first Technology Transfer Office (TTO). The university received support from TUBITAK for ten years for its Technology Transfer Office, opened a sports center, and established a foreign language school.

In a desire to develop its academic journey, Ozyegin University signed a cooperation agreement with the Istanbul Bar Association in 2017 and a cooperation agreement between the Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Turkish Airlines in 2018.

After a dedicated journey of work and effort, Ozyegin University was classified as the best university in the category of “Full and Outstanding Support for Students” by THE AWARDS ASIA in February 2019. In April of the same year, Times Higher Education awarded it the title of the best Turkish university in terms of social impact in recognition of its distinguished efforts and compliance with United Nations standards. The university also received several awards for most of its faculties in 2020 and 2021.
